Day 1 -- June 21st -- Astoria, OR to St. Helens, OR
Miles Ridden 68.1
Avg. Speed 15.4 MPH
Climbing 2,861 ft.

The bridge from Astoria to Washington at the start of the ride. The bottom picture would have looked a lot better if I lost those last 15 pounds. Maybe by New Hampshire.

The morning ritual of loading 100 odd suitcases and bags on the truck that will end up at tonight's hotel.
The days riding was fairly easy along a busy road with good shoulders. Huge logging trucks made up most of the traffic. It was drizzling and cloudy most of the day so we couldn't see much of the
scenery. We made it into St Helen's a little after noon and got a chance to go shopping at the nearby Walmart for the things we had forgotten. The leaders told us it would be the last major store we would be near until Boise Idaho.
