Day 7--June 27--Baker City OR to Ontario OR
Miles Ridden 83.2
Avg. Speed 18.0 MPH
Climbing 1680 Ft.
After several difficult riding days, our seventh day in Oregon was described as relatively easy but requiring travel on the Interstate.(which is legal out west when there is no alternate route) We were all nervous but it wasn't too bad... at least at 8:00 AM on a Sunday morning. The biggest hazard was from shreds of steel belts from blown truck tires which litter the shoulder and caused several flats.
The ride was mostly downhill through ever drier land and then along the Snake River where there were irrigated fields of potatoes and hay. We averaged 18 MPH which was easily the fastest ride so far. By the time we arrived the temperature was pushing 90 so I'm glad it was quick.
Seven days and still in Oregon makes it sound like are not making much progress but we did achieve one milestone today by entering the Mountain Time Zone. We also ended the day about three miles from the Idaho line. I have not seen much of Ontario other than the sprawl around the Interstate exit but there doesn't appear to be much here.
Tomorrow on to Boise with a forecasted high of 97 degrees.

One sign of progress, with the Idaho line next (don't know why the Time Zone changes in Oregon. It was still light enough to read outside at 10:00 PM in Ontario)
