Avg. Speed 16.9
Climbing 1900 ft.
Total Miles Ridden 798
Miles To Go 2831
We were told today's ride would be the shortest and easiest of the trip and we were given the option to ride down into the Snake River Gorge to see two sets of waterfalls. The first and largest were Shoshone Falls. They were very impressive (see below). After climbing out of the canyon we then went to the Twin Falls which are about 8 miles upriver from the town. The Twin Falls have been dammed and are now down to one little falls.
We climbed about 500 feet out of that canyon and then started on the road to Burley. Our great luck with the weather continued and we had unseasonably cool temperatures (that's good) and a 30 MPH tailwind. The ride paralleled I-84 on service roads that were literally empty of traffic and continued through the farms and desert of the Snake River Valley. We arrived a little after noon and had time to do our wash and bike maintenance. Everybody wished we could have ridden further today, given the great conditions. I was grateful I had no more flats.
We have an 83 mile ride to Pocatello ID tomorrow.
